Wellness Outreach

Are you a Human Resource Director, Wellness Coordinator, Benefits Director or employee interested in direct access to fresh locally grown produce from our farm? The Lightsey Farms health and wellness outreach initiative connects businesses, municipalities, hospitals and non-profits through “Farm to Work” or “Community Supported Agriculture (C.S.A.)” by delivering a box of various seasonal farm-fresh, locally grown produce to employees at their worksites.

This wellness initiative provides farmers with reliable and economically viable marketing outlets and offers employees increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 14% of adult Texans eat at least two fruits and three vegetables a day. The CDC now recommends 4-6 servings per day and the more fruits and vegetables that people eat, the better. Fruits and vegetables help prevent and reverse many chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease and some cancers. With the majority of an employee’s waking hours spent in the workplace, the program strives to support employees in protecting their health by increasing access to healthy food.

This offers a solution to overcome a key barrier many employees face when trying to eat more healthy foods. The Lightsey Farms health and wellness outreach initiative is coordinated by The Sustainable Food Center in partnership with the Texas Department of State Health Services and is growing at a rapid pace.

Benefits of the program include:

  • Increases access to fresh local produce for employees
  • Enhances a sense of community and sustainability
  • Reinforces existing health and wellness programs
